A wool pile of asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation. This urban carpet, in the style of a 19th-century Japanese painting, shows groupings of flowers carried along meandering, placid streams in shades of red, goldenrod, and shaded rust. A light green partial orb appears at the right. The upper stream merges into flowing, liquid side borders. A Nichols factory creation by an anonymous designer closely attuned to the Japanese, rather than the Chinese, Asiatic aesthetic.
