An antique Persian Mahal carpet. At a distance, the allover Herati design on the straw-yellow ground of this west Persian village large carpet forms an overlying broken lozenge lattice. Small roosters have infiltrated the rosette, ‘fish’ leaf and open diamond pattern. Angular, reversing turtle palmettes accent the nearly black border.
