A wool pile with symmetric knots on a wool foundation, this piece is of absolutely extraordinary dimensions: mansion carpet length and furniture runner width. The design features a tawny gold field with a single column of Yaprak (leaf) modules, alternating with diamonds adorned with four boteh-lappets. One can imagine a very narrow hall stretching on forever. Oushak has been a center of commercial Turkish weaving for half a millennium, and they pride themselves on their ability to create any design. This pattern, which originated in the early 19th century, is found on virtually every antique Oushak carpet.
