A vintage Indian Lahore rug from the mid-20th century. Black field, a central absolutely giant Shah Abbas style palmette, double half palmettes at sides and ends, and a black border with paeony palmettes and triple posy sprays. All in a 4' by 6' rug! Cloud bands, too. It looks like a snippet of a larger carpet, but it is actually complete in itself. A powerful, eye-catching statement rug. The bold taste is northern Indian, not Persian.
