A wool pile with symmetric knots on a cotton foundation. This attractive village kellegi (long rug) features a near-black field with two columns of rounded medallions, formed from ram’s horn hooks and slightly octagonal diamonds. The hooks are in ecru, royal blue, burgundy, and salmon. Tiny diamonds in the same tones as the pile float across the field. The red main border, in the Karaja style, displays stylized palmettes, while the ecru outer surround features a trapezoidal meander and suspended botehs. A richly colored piece, a step above typical Malayer weavings.
