A wool pile of symmetric knots on a cotton foundation. The famous mediaeval Persian scholar Avicenna is portrayed bust length, facing left, with beard, draped turban and ochre, orange robe, against a plain rose ground. Wide, black surround in a Herati pattern, and a narrow outer strip in ecru with small, jagged reversing palmettes.
