Vintage Turkish Anatolian Tribal Room Size Carpet

A wool pile of symmetric knots on a wool foundation. Kars vintage geometric carpets have appeared only in the last decade and, as here, have bold patterns, here of three-stepped red and ecru medallions on a plain brown ground. The narrow dark brown border shows floral chains in many colors. The field is desirably lightly abrashed. The stepped diamonds touch only very slightly at the points, and one might consider the whole pattern as a pole medallion. This example has all the simple boldness of a Caucasian Kazak, but in a larger size, with exceptional durability.
