Antique Central Asian Turkoman Room Size Carpet

A wool pile with asymmetric knots on a wool foundation. The slate field features a five-by-ten allover layout of gul-like, 16-lobed, floriated shapes arranged uniformly in crosshatches, with small latticed minor guls in the reserves. Numerous borders surround the design, with dark brown bounding lines that visually dominate over their small, light repeating patterns. The softer palette enhances the overall effect. The medallions replace traditional tribal guls, but create a similar visual impact. The minor guls are reminiscent of those found in Afghan Ersari Turkmen carpets.
