An antique Indian Agra Gallery carpet. Indian rugs take inspiration from anywhere, in this case, a Teimuri Afghan Baluch, probably from a rug book illustration. But whereas the originals are studies in blue tones, here various cool browns predominate. The field displays two columns of geometricized Harshang palmettes and the “crab” main border evinces Caucasian influences. This is a city rug with nomadic design and subdued colors.
