An antique Indian Amritsar carpet. Right out of the rug books, this northern Indian town carpet has a red field with a star and lozenge pattern closely adapted from the 16th/17th century Chessboard carpets probably of Syrian (Damascus or Aleppo) origin and featured in museum collections worldwide. Open apricot linked turtle palmettes enclose flowers in this iconographically correct carpet.
