An antique Indian Lahore carpet. The ivory field of this finely knotted north Indian city carpet displays cartouches and dragon octofoils defining a square and diamond compound lattice taken directly from an illustration of the 16th century Hewitt carpet now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art (NY). The border of dark blue cloud band cartouches and octofoils is a smaller proportioned version of the original.
