Antique Persian Dorokhsh Pictorial Throw Rug

No. 32565
Persia, Early 20th Century
3 ft. 9 in. x 5 ft. 9 in.
(1.13 x 1.74 m)

A wool pile of asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation. The buff field is mirrored across the center and depicts two royal pairs, a king to the left and his consort to the right, both kneeling. A slender tree with protective branches divides the scene vertically. Perhaps the iconography is that of Khusraw and Shirin, but there is no identifying. Flower-filled dark blue corners. Ecru strip style main border with botehs, flowers and little lotus palmettes. Dorokhsh pictorials are extremely rare.
