A silk pile with asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation, accented by silk fringe. While Farahan-area weavers are best known for their 19th-century dark blue Herati kellegis (long rugs), there was also a small production of luxury silk pieces, such as this one, featuring fine, urban-style weaves. The old gold field depicts a Tree of Life, with angular upraised branches, palmettes, other flowers, and two parakeets perched in the upper branches. Garden urns filled with luxuriant foliage flank the tree. The border gradually abrashes from light blue to cream and features palmettes. Likely a silk Farahan-Saruk scatter, it is certainly of high quality.
