A vintage Indian Amritsar carpet. This northern Indian interwar carpet draws from classical sources: the border of inscription cartouches and octogrammes is 16th century Persian; the medallion with internal cloud bands; the ramping animals in the scalloped field. The tonality is lighter than the originals, however, which tend to be in saturated, jewel tones.
