A wool pile with symmetric knots on a cotton foundation. At first glance, it may appear Moroccan, but this large Anatolian scatter rug features a sand field with two complete columns of six layered, stepped lozenges in brown, charcoal, and straw, along with three partial strings of Christmas tree ornaments and three stick figure human forms. A few small, divided squares are scattered for variety at one end. The border consists of five plain dark brown and cream stripes. A totally idiosyncratic piece with influences from both village Anatolian and European Surrealist sources. In good condition.
