One of the famous Chahar Mahal “Khan” rustic carpets woven for the Bakhtiari rulers on cotton foundation with a medium weave. The navy field displays five offset rows of doubled royal crowns sprouting twin dragon heads, and developing from cartouches enclosing nested hexagons: leaves, flowers and tiny botehs in the surrounding scatter fill. Mustard corners with div (demon) heads. Old ivory border with double hooked inscription cartouche at the top, and a jagged meander enclosing eccentric palmette/rosette elements and a surprising, non-repeating mix of lesser devices. Superb, saturated all-natural dye palette. Good condition. An outstanding piece of folk art made for a discerning patron.
