A wool pile of symmetrical knots on a cotton foundation. This monumental Kurdish city carpet from the post-WWI era features a light slate-blue field densely covered by an intricate allover pattern of spiral volute vines, open diamonds, crown palmettes, ragged palmettes, and botehs. The ecru main border showcases shield palmettes, forked acanthus arabesques, and bow and cloud bands. It is very compactly and solidly woven.
