A wool pile of symmetric knots on a cotton foundation. This extraordinary 'Bakshayesh' type Heriz carpet features a semi-pictorial design of a midnight blue octagonal perspectival water tank, with a cypress, potted flowers, and standing birds above. The red madder field extends to the apex, where sheep and a goat are depicted. Rainbow-striped upper spandrels complement the design. The light blue strip-style border is adorned with outward-pointing turtle palmettes. Antique pictorial carpets of this type are extremely rare. The carpet boasts an exceptionally saturated red field and demonstrates unique artistic quality.
