A wool pile of asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation. The wide, bold red border of peacock tail petal palmettes under a continuous arcaded strapwork vine, contrasts with the sand - old ivory field with palmettes, spiky rosettes, buds and bits of vinery, all shifted subtly toward one end. This shift gives the whole field movement within a formal frame. The border actually has a larger scale than the field.
