A wool pile of symmetric knots on a cotton foundation, this mat is semi-pictorial, with chickens and roosters integrated into the luxuriant, plant-filled pattern on an abrashed beige ground. The flowers are all upright, flowing toward one end of the field. The light salmon-ochre border features a version of the 'tangerine flower' pattern, with palmettes and sprigs of triple florets.
