Asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation. The golden straw field features an asymmetric yet balanced array of geometric, discrete figures in the general Khotanese manner, with both vegetal, floral, and geometric influences. Leaves, blossoms, lozenges, and curvy X’s are among the ingenious motifs. The triple border system separates cloudheads from diagonal rain, with an ivory strip between, featuring bulbous octagons or eccentric circles. Antique Khotans never appeared in Western room sizes. A very attractive carpet with a lighter palette.
