Modern East Turkestan Khotan Large Room Size Carpet

This piece features a wool pile of asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation. The abstract field is composed of semi-rectangular, non-repeating patches in rust, straw, brown, black, charcoal, cream, and grey. These bold patches are framed by a strikingly contrasting border of flattened V shapes and conforming diagonal lines, all neatly stepped and separated from the field by a traditional narrow ivory fret band. The strong contrast between the field and border enhances the visual impact of the design.
