A wool pile of asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation. The straw-beige field reveals a neatly drawn allover, repeating “cloud lattice” pattern of rounded squares and intermediate small diamonds. Ancient Chinese pattern, found on rugs from the16th century onwards. Inner border of floating rosettes, plain framing band, and a wide main borer of cloud heads (Yun-tsao Tou). About as large as modern Khotans get. Decorative, mellow palette.
