A wool pile with asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation. The fuchsia/cerise field features an abrash, a rare characteristic in Chinese city rugs, which beautifully highlights the still life of vases bearing peonies or garden flowers, stands, books in boxes, a Buddha’s hand citron, and a pomegranate. Flower sprays pattern the upper portion of the field. The main border features cartouches enclosing cloudbands, with intervening sections of textile patterns. The carpet is defined by totally saturated colors.
