A vintage Persian Malayer carpet. Dark umber brown accents the serrated boteh-form leaves and petal palmettes of the border, and also touch small rosettes and flowers in the field of this allover patterned west Persian town carpet with motif accents in pale blue-grey and straw on an abrashed light brown ground. This uncommonly square carpet has an advancing border and somewhat recessive, mellow-toned, field. “Mahalayers” is unusual in this square format.
