A wool pile of symmetric knots on a cotton foundation. This Malayer, woven in the Mahal style—a “Mahalayer”—features a light slate field with an all-over pattern of embedded octagons, stars, rosettes, lazy fringed ovals, and a broken vinery tying the design together. The putty-toned main border displays paired botehs and two types of reversing simple palmettes. The palette is soft, with abundant bone and ecru detailing.
