A wool pile of asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation. Narrow and wide bands alternate throughout the piece, featuring rectangles, shrubbery, chessmen, and other abstract shapes, all depicted in numerous shades of blue, red, cream, rose, rust, and straw. Two large polychrome striped elements interrupt the banded pattern. This is village work from around Mashad in northeastern Persia.
