Vintage Persian Modern Style Hamadan Throw Rug

A wool pile of symmetric knots on a cotton foundation. This is another clever "end of day" rug, featuring an allover pattern of small squares arranged in chromatic rows of blue shades, yellows, teal, and rust. The pattern becomes fragmented toward one end of the field, as if the weavers were unsure of their design but eventually found their way—a personal touch. The sand-colored border includes rosettes, palmettes, and leaves, all roughly drawn. Perhaps a practice piece for a learner—or maybe someone simply having fun.
