A wool pile of symmetric knots on a cotton foundation. Remarkably, this oversized piece was likely made on a flat/ground loom! A few villages in the Chahar Mahal district still use this type of loom, even for very large carpets. The unusual pale blue field is structured by a solid gold-straw diamond-hexagon lattice, with each cell uniformly enclosing upward, unidirectional turtle palmettes. The red main border alternates between petal rosettes and square floret arrays. This piece is unsigned, which is unusual for a weaving of this size.
