A wool pile of symmetric knots on a cotton foundation. We love pictorial rugs, and this enigmatic type is one of our favorites. The ecru field displays three tribal ladies in military tunic, pantaloons and riding boots, placed above a riderless horse galloping to the right. Between is a palmette, and the smaller figure may be intended as a young girl. The rust border alternates ashiks with serrated straight leaves. The iconography is presently obscure and unresolved, as is the exact origin, but the graphic qualities are evident.
