An antique Persian Heriz carpet. The mustard sub-medallion is chunky, tilted and so authentically rural. The tomato red subfield bends the medallion’s palmette pendants. The whole effect is wonderfully wonky and naïve. The turtle palmettes of the red main border are simplified and squared off. This naturally dyed, NW Persian rustic carpet dates c. 1900.
