An antique Persian Mahal carpet. An abrashed rusty field displays large light blue crab palmettes accented with whimsical white dots amid stiff vines and highly informal gooseneck arabesques. The charcoal border has equally undisciplined floating turtle palmettes. There are relatively few antique Mahals in this format and the slightly mellow colors make it decorative. The idiosyncratic pattern makes it amusing.
