Antique Persian Mahal Oversize Carpet

A wool pile of asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation. The tawny yellow field is centered on two stacked, radiating symmetrical motives, with daisy rosettes to the ends. The arcing stems provide structure. Ecru stems and foliage. Balanced laterally, but moving toward one end. Red border with florets on stems bending around rosettes and palmettes. A very well-executed carpet, surely a special order. These large Mahals are among the best antique village creations. Unusual and attractive field tone. Natural dyes.
