An antique Persian Mshad carpet. Six complete and two half rows of stars-in-parentheses are vertically joined to make an unusual open cartouche pattern with interstitial light floral sprays, all on a buff ground. The darkest brown border alternates spade-shaped palmettes with forked leaves. The medium blue field accents are particularly effective and eye-catching on this slightly mellow NE Persian city carpet.
