Botehs, boteh-like leaves, striped palmettes and escutcheon vases sprouting posies are all highlighted in dark brown on the light grey-blue field of this east Persian Khorassan city carpet. The field recedes as the rich chocolate millefleurs main border advances to form a quasi- three-dimensional frame.
