A wool pile of symmetrical knots on a cotton foundation. This well-woven city carpet features a sand-colored field with four large 'dumbbell' open curvy cartouches created by partially split arabesques. The reserves are joined both vertically and horizontally by colorful stepped diamonds, with the entire field centered on a similar motif. This pattern, more commonly seen on contemporaneous Kerman carpets, is executed exceptionally well here. The rust-red border showcases palmettes and barbed, elliptical leaf-like forms, with an excellently flowing design and fine corner resolution.
