This wool pile, with asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation, features a classic Khirghiz pattern of mostly stepped cross-shaped panels, presented in a distinctive colorway of rose against strongly abrashed red-brown. Some panels are rectangular, while others are irregular but still rectilinear. The contrasting, colorful border consists of parallel stepped lines, V-shaped motifs, and zig-zags. In as-new condition, this piece represents a successful urban interpretation of a tribal archetype.
