The villagers of the Chahar Mahal area in western Persia weave the so-called Bakhtiari rugs and they favor the garden/panel design. Here the multicolored panels of ivory, red, medium blue, and navy display branching plants, stylized bouquets, and striped hexagon plaquettes. The pattern ultimately goes back to Kurdish garden carpets of the 19th century. The tonality is bright and cheerful in this vintage rug.
