Antique Persian Kashan Room Size Carpet

This piece features a wool pile of symmetric knots on a cotton foundation. The gray-blue field displays seven complete offset rows of diamonds filled with snippets of urban Persian patterns, along with a row of similar half-diamonds near the top end of the field. The field tone gradually recedes and is overlaid with a leaf and small quasi-calligraphic pattern. The blood-red border features a complex design of leaves, rosettes, arabesques, and shield palmettes.
