A wool pile of symmetric knots on a wool foundation. A fine example of the traditional, versatile Persian 7’ by 10’ format, here in an urban weave of a boldly drawn “Vase carpet” pattern with a central full-height staff, oblique layered palmettes, ragged palmettes and curved secondary stems, all on a rose field. Tabriz inter-war carpets, as here, create innumerable variations on the 17th century basic pattern. Green main border with petal palmettes and exaggerated amphora irises.
