Antique Persian Tabriz Large Carpet

A wool pile with symmetric knots on a cotton foundation, this six-by-eight panel design is a unidirectional garden carpet featuring individual sections with weeping willows, prunus and tank, chenar branches, flowering branches with birds, curvilinear mihrabs, carnations, vases, and other traditional motifs. The grounds include rust, ecru, and brown. The narrow main border showcases botehs, palmettes, and peacock tail palmettes, all set along a fleshy meander. Well-woven and entirely characteristic of the type and period.
