Modern East Turkestan Khotan Room Size Carpet

A wool pile with asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation. The bold, reciprocal border is characteristic of the oasis city of Yarkand, as is the central ecru 'moon' medallion, which features the distinctive Khotan pomegranate and vase motif. Rust-colored upper and lower moons are adorned with arabesque elements, while corner bushes with blue leaves complete the design. The red-brown field adds depth. Traditionally, rugs of this style are long and narrow, but this example presents an authentic version in a modern format.
