This piece features a wool pile of symmetric knots on a cotton and wool foundation. While superficially similar to Eastern Turkish Kars production, the structure and resulting handle are quite different. Retained, however, is the abrashed, plain cardinal red field, which here encloses a central vertical panel featuring a seven-part, hooked diamond pole medallion with matching triangular, serrated side fillers. The dark brown border is decorated with chains of small diamonds. The narrow but effective color scheme enhances the overall design.
