A wool pile of asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation. A perfectly drawn, medium scale allover Herati design of open diamonds, lancet leaves, rosettes and palmettes covers the brownish grey field. The cochineal red strip style border shows slender reversing turtle palmettes along with rosettes and “fish” leaves. Minor borders with trapezoidal meanders. Soft wool. Moderate/medium weave. Mashad city looms are known for very large carpets, some over 20’ by 30’.
