A silk pile of asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation. The shimmering slate field displays thirteen offset rows of stylized floral forms separated by small stars, creating a quasi-Persian effect. The ecru main border is purely Khotanese, featuring cloud heads and slanting rain motifs, while both minor borders repeat fret modules. A plain slate outermost surround completes the composition. Modern silk Khotan carpets are quite rare and appear to have been special orders rather than off-the-peg serial production.
