Wool weft-faced weave. Assembled from seven black and cream-banded sections, slightly sewn out of sync, this piece showcases village handwork throughout. The stripes bend and wander, sometimes squeezing the ecru, with nothing aligning neatly with its neighbors. The tradition of creating long warp or weft-faced bands and then assembling them is an old one, but these pieces, along with their modern interpretations, have only recently appeared on the market. This is a particularly graphic example. In as-new condition.
