An antique Indian Agra carpet. The dark indigo field features a precisely repeated small Harshang allover pattern of ragged palmettes, toothed rosettes, gooseneck short arabesques, and various flower combinations. In each large palmette is a smaller vase enclosing a flower. The vase and flower detail first appears on antique Baluch carpets employing the Harshang design. The rust border of this giant northern Indian city workshop a mansion size carpet displays serrated palmettes and octofoil rosettes. It was probably a special commission. Light secondary colors.
